The Salary Trap: Why Hours Matter
When you are paid an annual salary, your true hourly rate depends entirely on how many hours you actually work. If you are an exempt employee (meaning you don’t get overtime pay), working long hours dilutes the value of your salary.
The 2,080 Rule
A standard full-time year is 2,080 hours (40 hours × 52 weeks).
To find your standard hourly rate, divide your salary by 2,080. Example: $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85/hr.
The 50-Hour Week Reality
